Where to Eat Off Campus

For a quick change of scenery, try these places…

Written by Camille Hamant

Eating the same BLT and poutine at Marianopolis’ cafeteria all week and lounging in the A-300 ‘carpet area’ can quickly become tiresome; to avoid the jaws of boredom, the MWR suggests these off campus addresses if you are looking for a change of scenery:

On Sherbrooke Street:

Just a quick 10 minute walk, or, if you’re lucky enough to catch the 138, a 5 minute bus ride down Claremont Street, and you will find yourself surrounded by the stores and restaurants that Sherbrooke Street has to offer. All of the restaurants and cafes listed below are a walking distance from each other:

Restaurants: if your break happens to be a ridiculous 2 hours and a half or if you’re free during activity period, consider treating yourself to one of these ‘sit-down’ restaurants:

  • Mandy’s Salad Bar: Mandy’s has become a Marianopolis student staple. As the name clearly suggests, they mainly serve salads. Choose from one of their ‘Gourmet Salads’ or create your own!
  • Chicha Restaurant: An asian-fusion tea room, Chicha serves delicious and affordable lunch dishes and desserts. Be sure to try their bubble tea!
  • Sushi Shop
  • (And if you really have quite the extensive lunch break, try an MWR favorite, Cafe Orange on Décarie!)

Fast Food: If you’ve got class in 20 minutes, opt for one of these familiar establishments:

  • Thai Express
  • Subway
  • McDonalds
  • A & W

Cafes: Grab a much needed coffee or tea, with friends or alone, at one of these chains or at a local cafe:

  • The Standard: A chic cafe ideal for relaxing or for a rendez-vous. Treat yourself to their excellent coffee.
  • Starbucks
  • Second Cup
  • DAVIDsTEA

Dessert: Enjoy these places while the heat is still sweltering and before they close for
the winter!

  • Dairy Queen
  • Yeh! Frozen Yogurt

There are lots of exciting places, so let us know if we missed any of your favourites!
