Congress Weekly: Food, Elections, and Hungry Club Storage Ghosts?!

Friday, April 12th, 2024

Interested in what Congress ASMR would sound like? During this weekly meeting, multiple participants were under the weather, so many interventions were done in a soft-spoken tone. With discussions surrounding upcoming projects and activities, the cabane à sucre in two weeks and the Coordinators’ Elections, this quiet meeting also unpacks a concerning trend as to items missing in the club storage room…

Upcoming projects and activities

  1. For the upcoming graduation ceremony, 350 copies of the yearbook were ordered and, despite delays, should come on time. Extra yearbooks may be prepared for Congress and Committee members.
  2. On April 18th during AP, the 2022 documentary film The Klabona Keepers was screened in A-401 for Earth Day.
  3. Starting this week, after many delays, painters will finally come to start working on cultural murals for the College. Keep your eyes peeled for further updates.

Cabane à sucre

Did you know that Congress and Student Affairs subsidize at least 30$ for each participant of the yearly cabane à sucre? With a second bus of students on the waiting list itching to go enjoy a 10$ all-you-can-eat event, Congress approves by majority vote to fund this second bus as part of their W24 budget. As Friday April 26th hosts such delectable temptations, how could Congress not cancel their meeting and join in on the fun? Especially if Dawson is coming on the same day…

Coordinators’ Elections

Last week, multiple coordinators whose positions are soon to open for elections have been “ambushed” for details about their post as the Coordinator of Student Affairs testifies. With the interview questions for Congress appointed positions being almost prepared, the MSU is prepared to enter the Coordinators’ Election week.

As the Coordinators’ Debate is hosted by the Papercut this Friday at 4 pm, Congress debated as to the best way to bribe INCENTIVIZE students to come. At the end, they decided to have popcorn and ice cream given out to anyone that was present during the event. As the auditorium does not allow food inside, this will be done at the end when people leave.

Missing items??

A Marianopolis ghost story? The inventory of the club storage room hasn’t been done for a couple years now, and multiple club items seemed to be disappearing. Just a couple weeks ago, MariHacks discovered that its power bars went missing and, because of this, they had to ask participants to bring some. At another one of Marianpolis’ well-known club events, the yearly MariMUN conference, organizers found that their expensive walkie-talkies simply evaporated from storage. Were they misplaced? Did students take them and bring them home? Little clues could be found as to how this happened as regulations concerning the club storage room are minimal. Currently, Student Affairs and Congress are thinking about moving some items elsewhere to safeguard them as they think of new regulations to be established. Meanwhile, student life animators would do the inventory of the club storage room during the summer and the newly elected Vice-President, Emily Yu, would look into it as part of their mandate.

MIO Daniel Tang if you have any information you would like to share about missing items in the club storage room.
