The Marianopolis Research Team Club

The News Blitz had the incredible chance of speaking with an executive from the Marianopolis Research Team, Xiaoxiao Liu, to share with students everything they need to know about the club!

Many clubs seek to enrich student life by giving students opportunities to socialize through games, learn new skills through workshops, or lay the foundation of their career prospects by networking during events. As for the Marianopolis Research Team, what would say their goal is?

“As this year’s executives, we’d like to give students a platform where they can come together to develop new skills and share their similar passion and curiosity for science.”

For those that would want names to match the smiling faces they’ll see at Join A Club Day, can we get to know who this year’s executive team is?

“For sure! Within our team, there is me (Xiaoxiao Liu) serving as President, as well as Youdas Yessad, Sudarsan Packirisamy, and Luc Bojorquez-Lopez. A dream team!”

What inspired you to join this club, first as a member, and then commit as an executive?

“For me personally, I’m an incredibly curious person, especially in the field of science. Becoming a researcher is also at the top of my list in terms of what I’d like to pursue as a career, and I’d like to get a taste of what it would be like. I also would like to gain more experience!”

In three words, how would you describe your club?

“Curiosity, science…Marianopolis?” (Might we add, the third word made the writer laugh quite hard from how plainly obvious yet unexpected it was!)

What kind of activities should students expect from your club in the upcoming year?

“We’re planning on hosting some panels with guests that might be of interest for the topics we’d like to touch on, promoting some valuable volunteer opportunities as well as a very exciting plan of hopefully getting a research paper published in a college-centred science journal! Stay tuned for upcoming details!”

What qualities and traits do you hope to see in your future club members?

“A sense of organization, please! But on a real note, we’d truly hope for our members to be passionate, and we’re not only talking about science students. We believe students in other programs, notably social science, might bring some valuable and interesting points of view to the projects we’re hoping to kick off.”

How would you describe your club’s contribution to the College and to student life at large?

“We’d like to spark an interest in research in students and provide them with the right platform and opportunities to guide them along the way. It’ll be a good way for those that are interested, to also get hands-on experience!”

Any last words you’d like to address to the student union?

“Stay curious, my friend!”

On that wholesome note from the wonderful executive team of MRT, we hope this article gave students a chance to get to know them and their club’s objectives!
