Congress Weekly: Halloween Week Recap, CASAQ, CRUES, and MSU Affairs

In  a short meeting on November 3rd, Congress met to reflect on the Halloween activities as well as external and internal affairs.

Halloween Week Recap  “This was the best Halloween at Marianopolis in a while,” said Student Affairs Director Leticia Yansen. With regard to the festivities of October 31st, the group was happy with their choice of mini-pumpkins, a photobooth, candy and club booths in the student lounge. As for the dance party on Thursday AP, the confusion provided the MSU with important support and organization lessons. President Maria also suggested that event coordinators write event post mortems to pass down to future MSU members. Finally, Leticia Yansen stressed the importance of Omnivox and mid-week reminders to stimulate engagement. Congress agreed that committee members would be tasked with reposting the events on the personal Instagram accounts.

CASAQ and CRUES Coordinator of External Affairs Michael met his homologues at a CASAQ meeting (Coalition of Anglophone Student Associations of Quebec) this weekend.  The MSU decided they should send three delegates to the upcoming CRUES (Coalition de résistance pour l’unité étudiante syndicale) general assembly in Rimouski. The MSU members, who would be the only anglophone CEGEP representatives there, would have no voting power, but could listen in and intervene. On another note, Congress might take a position on the increased tuition rates for out-of-province Canadian students at the general assembly.

MSU Affairs The issue of Congress office access by non-MSU members was raised once again. While some expressed their discomfort at asking raucous guests to leave during their office hours, they agreed to take a collective stance on banning non-Congress members during work time. Furthermore, president Maria will be meeting all the other members individually to discuss their role and projects.
