Congress Weekly: Food Drive, Fair Trade Coffee House, and Club of the Month

Coffee House

Being sustainable feels good, but it also tastes good.

“Fair trade” companies partner with small-scale farmers and guarantee a sustainable income for all their employees, from plantation workers to truck drivers. These companies also carefully manage natural resources and limit the use of harmful chemicals. Coordinator of Social Justice Matthew Homa believes that positive changes in the world start with small daily choices.

On Thursday, November 17, in the Student Lounge during AP, Matthew and his committee members will offer fair trade tea and coffee for free.

Students can also enjoy piano, guitar, and singing performances.

Intercollegiate Food Drive

In collaboration with anglophone CEGEPs John Abbott, Vanier, Champlain, and Dawson, Coordinator of External Affairs Cindy Li announces an intercollegiate food drive!

Students can donate non-perishable goods such as canned food, dried pasta, and hygiene products on November 24th and 25th in front of Wayne’s and in the Student Lounge. The External Affairs Committee members also welcome cash donations from students.

Cindy and Maria Ma, Coordinator of Charities and Volunteering, will donate the money to the Food Depot located in NDG and the non-perishable food to St-Gabriel’s Parish for their yearly Christmas baskets.

Cookie Decorating Event

There’s always an excuse to eat cookies! On November 22nd, Cindy welcomes all students to have a cheat day for charity.

The External Affairs Committee and Great Mari Bake Off Club members will serve plain sugar and gingerbread cookies in the student lounge. Students can experiment with icing of all colours.

Students will have the opportunity to make cash donations that will also be given to Food Depot and St-Gabriel’s Parish.

Club of the Month
