Congress Weekly: Sugar Shack, Statue, and Mari Arcade Night

On Friday, January 26, Congress gathered as usual to discuss a few matters relevant to the student body. Special guest Leticia Yansen was also present at this meeting.

Sugar Shack

The fees for this activity organized by Student Affairs were discussed. To participate, students usually pay a fee of around $10, but no specifics have been announced yet. Leticia Yansen also shared that tickets sell out within two to three days and that, in previous years, the activity normally took place in April. More information to come in the following weeks.

Statue

Congress mentioned that student proposals are to be done. These proposals would present ideas to change the display of the statue of Marguerite Bourgeoys standing close to the library. Ms. Yansen remarked that setting deadlines for specific tasks would help with the achievement of this project. She also added that planning for Indigenous week is underway.

Student Study Groups

A school committee of staff reached out to the MSU to ask for their support for the creation of study groups. The project seemed to interest Congress, and Leticia Yansen mentioned that study nights used to be organized at Marianopolis. They would be program specific and take place, for instance, from 4 to 6 P.M. at the student lounge. There would be no tutor or faculty member there, just students reviewing the material together (and snacks were made available to them). Reviving such an initiative or has not been determined yet.

Mari Arcade Night

No specific date has been announced, but Congress discussed the idea of an arcade night taking place at Marianopolis. The MSU would bring games on campus, such as laser quest, and possibly collaborate with the escape room club. The entry fee for the activity is also still unclear. More information will be available in the future.
