Congress Weekly: “A Day in My Life” Project and Coffee House

On Friday, February 16th, Congress met to discuss a few key matters pertaining to the student body. Here are the two main ones:

“A Day in My Life” Project

Steve from Student Affairs attended this Congress meeting as a guest and took the opportunity to discuss a project currently in the works. This idea, which comes from Rié Sauté, consists of reaching out to a few students to make vlogs showing how an average day goes for them at Marianopolis. These short videos would be uploaded on Marianopolis’ official instagram account, and the vloggers would receive compensation. The project has not been approved yet, but its current goal is to appeal to prospective social science students. Once approval is confirmed, guidelines will be more concrete.

Steve wanted to reach out to the MSU for student recommendations. At the moment, he and others working on the project are looking for 4 social science students who are highly involved in student life. Leticia Yansen, who was also a guest during this meeting, highlighted how Congress is mostly composed of science and arts & sciences students. She asked Steve how he sees Congress’ role in this project given the MSU’s composition. He answered that the project does not solely focus on social sciences but also on the Marianopolis student experience more broadly. Concerning this point, Rebecca pointed out the importance of showcasing the possibility of a social life at our school (outside of clubs).

Coffee House (to raise awareness about fair trade)
This activity will now take place during an entire day, not just during an activity period, and most likely on a Thursday. As for food, breakfast will be included, and students will be able to choose among muffins, fruits, cereals, and sandwiches. As Congress will mostly be offering coffee and hot chocolate, the necessary material also includes cups, sugar, cream, and mixing sticks. The MSU will start promoting this free activity a few days before the expected date.
